Huyi Community:Calls for Contribution
Release time:2025-02-13 12:59:38
Community Engagement:Huyi Community members are launching a call for participation in a developmental research project aimed at designing and prototyping an immersive learning experience for a Corporate Finance course that integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) dimensions. The prototype will be grounded in the “Classroom as Organisation” pedagogical model and supported by an integrated open-source digital platform (Huyixiang EduLab). It will simulate a cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) scenario in China, enabling learners to co-construct knowledge collaboratively with key stakeholders—investors, dealers, and regulators—while engaging with the cultural and sustainability challenges inherent in international M&A activities. This initiative forms part of a broader research programme exploring dialogic and experiential learning approaches for responsible management education. The project team aims to submit a paper proposal to the BERA Conference (UK), September 2026, to present the research outcomes and prototype development process.Interested educators, researchers, and EdTech professionals are invited to join the development and testing phases.
Immersive Digital Learning Solutions for Embedding ESG in Corporate Finance
Learning Design Strategy and Guidelines
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are increasingly central to firms’ capital allocation decisions. Integrating ESG considerations allows for more comprehensive financial analysis, providing a clearer understanding of a company’s valuation and overall risk profile. However, incorporating ESG into financial decision-making requires an interdisciplinary and complex approach supported by specific skill sets. A pedagogy centred on project-based learning within a technology-enhanced virtual environment can significantly aid in developing these skills. Our research aims to explore this learning approach and propose an instructional strategy, along with guidelines for its design and implementation. A prototype of this learning solution is developed and tested in a real classroom setting within a bachelor-level Corporate Finance course in China, to simulate a scenario and learning process that supports and facilitates ESG integration into financial decision-making among key stakeholders, including investors, managers, and regulators. This is demonstrated through a case scenario involving an M&A consulting project for the acquisition of a factory in China. Using a developmental research methodology, the study employs iterative stages of designing, building, and testing the learning solution. The objective is to propose instructional strategies and guidelines for the design and implementation of the learning solution in a Learning Management System supplemented by Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence tools., The findings are expected to contribute to innovative technology-enhanced practices in corporate finance education by embedding Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) dimensions into curricula and advancing ESG-focused financial literacy.
Instructional Design Guidelines
The research will contribute to the development of instructional guidelines that reinforce authentic learning environments, embedding ESG considerations into corporate finance curricula. Case-based scenarios will be designed using a Project-Based Learning pedagogy, offering students opportunities to engage in experiential, context-rich learning that mirrors real-world complexities.
